My good pal, Sheila is a huge bird fan and one of the most knowledgeable people I know on the topic. We often travel together as we share an interest in wildlife photography. One year we took a trip specifically designed to see whales and birds (to San Ignacio Laguna in Baja). As the trip began, I got a little frustrated when the birders (and there were some big bird fans on that trip!) took us away from my beloved whales to go spot birds. But . . . something happened to me on that trip . . . their enthusiasm rubbed off! I soon found that I too had developed a new-found fondness for our feathered friends. So much so, that they made a starring appearance in my second novel, The Songbird’s Way. Now, I still wouldn’t have a clue what the names of many of the species are in these photos (except for the puffins, ah the Skelligs puffins - so gorgeous!), but I do sincerely appreciate how lovely they all are. And after all, it’s a heck of a lot easier to spot birds from the living room window, than it is to see a passing whale eh?!
