‘dolphins are the wisest animals on the planet, they know more than we can even begin to imagine . . .’

Twelve-year-old Skylar Joy is angry. She’s angry with her Dad for keeping secrets, for not taking care of himself and ending up in hospital; she’s angry with herself for arguing with her Mom about their Florida dolphin park just before she died; and she’s absolutely furious that she’s been sent to stay with her cousins in the Irish seaside town of Kilkee for the summer. All Skylar wants, is to be back home in Florida with her Dad – the two of them against the world.

Her cousin, Cian Kelly is afraid. His best friend and older brother are both away for the summer leaving him alone to face the town bullies who made his life a nightmare the previous year. He dreams of one day escaping to become a marine biologist, and wants to learn all there is to know about dolphins and whales.

When Skylar comes to stay, she convinces Cian to help her try to find Saoirse, the wild dolphin saved by her Dad when he was young. She hopes the dolphin will help to unlock family secrets, and release her Dad from the demons that he’s been keeping buried or so long

Swim Free follows the adventures of twelve-year-old cousins, Skylar and Cian in West Clare as they overcome bullying and feelings of loss and anger in order to find and protect Saoirse, the wild dolphin. Their incredible adventure causes big changes in their own lives and the lives of the dolphins in the family park in Florida.
