A Whale of a Time at St. Ronan’s School
I had a wonderful time speaking to the pupils of St Ronan's novel-reading group, who so kindly invited me to their school in Clondalkin to talk to them about whales. They had been reading Why the Whales Came a novel for children by Michael Morpurgo, and were interested to learn more about my interactions with whales around the world. We also talked about the many threats facing wild whales and dolphins including overfishing, boat strikes, pollution and captivity for entertainment.
I thoroughly enjoyed meeting with these intelligent, thoughtful young people and was very encouraged by their enthusiasm for helping to conserve the oceans and protect its wildlife.
Thanks so much to the lovely teachers and pupils of St Ronan’s and to all in Clondalkin for the great welcome, and delicious chocolate cake in the staff room after!
